We Are In Time

We Are In Time is a striking new music-and-theatre production exploring the extraordinary story of a transplanted heart, with Untitled Projects and Valgeir Sigurðsson
Two bodies, suspended in darkness.
A team of surgeons, poised as one.
A gathered chorus, singing of life and death.
And a human heart, speeding through the city…
Unfurling through song, words and a visionary live score for strings and electronics, We Are In Time follows the extraordinary journey of two strangers, one giving life, the other receiving it. Musicians are at once performers, chorus and specialist team as the drama between renowned mezzo-soprano Ruby Philogene and vocalist Jodie Landau unfolds, and time ticks on.
The result is a thought-provoking meditation on life, and on what it means to live; on the frailty and strength of human beings, working together, with science, against nature, in search of the superhuman.
In this new collaboration between Scottish Ensemble, director Stewart Laing, writer Pamela Carter and composer Valgeir Sigurðsson, the journey of a transplanted heart – from one life, to another – is teased open, inviting the audience into a strange, intense world of complex emotion and unexpected metaphor.
Featuring a new score for string orchestra and two vocalists by one of Iceland’s most original and creative composer/producers, whose compositions swoop amongst contemporary classical and experimental electronica, Scottish Ensemble musicians will flit between their roles as musicians, chorus and curious onlookers to the drama happening on stage.
We Are In Time is presented by Scottish Ensemble & Untitled Projects in association with Horsecross Arts and will be at Perth Theatre at Horsecross Arts on Tuesday 25 & Wednesday 26 February.
