The Croft at Perth Theatre
January 29, 2020 by Perthshire Creates
The Croft is a new thriller based on a true story, a bold and haunting new play interweaving the present with the past as ancient tales surface and the terrifying truth lurking in The Croft is revealed.
Starring Gwen Taylor, written by Ali Milles, directed by Philip Franks and presented by The Original Theatre Company, The Croft visits Perth Theatre for a Scottish exclusive run from Tuesday 4 until Saturday 8 February as part of a National Spring 2020 Tour.
In the remote Scottish Highlands two women arrive at a former Crofters Hut in the deserted village of Coillie Ghille. When suddenly the weekend getaway takes an unexpected turn. Cut off from the modern world, Laura and Suzanne find themselves drawn into the dark history of the Croft and the lives that passed before them. In the 1880’s, there is Enid the last person left in the village – she’s resilient, a survivor, who takes in the Laird’s pregnant daughter, Eilene. In 2005, Ruth occupies the croft, which she and her husband Tom bought as a holiday home and where Ruth has her affair with local man, David. In the present day, Laura returns with her friend Suzanne to her parent’s croft after her mother Ruth’s death. They discover the terrifying truth that lurks within the croft. As their stories intertwine, and ancient tales surface, can the present heal the past?
Directed by award-winning director Philip Franks (The Habit of Art) and produced by The Original Theatre Company (The Habit of Art, The Night Watch, Birdsong), The Croft will be setting pulses racing this Spring.
