Christmas Design Market Countdown
October 18, 2017 by Perthshire Creates
The countdown is on for the 3rd Perthshire Creates Christmas Design Market, and this year we’re really excited to both be in a new venue, the Civic Hall at No.2 High Street in Perth and to showcase 30 of Perthshire’s talented designer-makers who all create original contemporary artwork which makes unusual and personal gifts.
The emphasis for this event is ‘contemporary design’ which is what sets it apart from the many fabulous Christmas Events that are so popular at this time of year. It’s exciting just how many creative practitioners there are working in Perth & Kinross and inspiration comes from a great number of sources, however, it’s not surprising that for many the fabulous natural scenery, flora, fauna, views and even the weather is often the starting point for their creative designs.
Meeting the maker in person, chatting through their work and getting to know the story behind their creations makes for an interesting experience and connects you to the pieces in a way which can’t be said of ‘high street’ purchases.
A purchase from a designer-maker really does make an unusual and personal gift, whether it’s staying with you or being gifted to family and friends. There are numerous benefits to ‘Buying Local’, connecting you to the area, getting to know a maker, supporting local small businesses, and knowing that what you buy is an original design and either unique or from a small batch production.
The designer-makers are coming from across the entire area from Aberfeldy, Birnam, Blair Atholl, Comrie, Crieff, Kinross, Perth, Scone and beyond and the handmade items available include jewellery, ceramics, textiles, art, cards, glass, metalwork, photography, mosaic, wood, handmade soaps and candles.
We have a Christmas Design Market Facebook Event Page where images of the designers’ work will be posted to tempt you along on the day and make it easy to share with friends who would want to know about this event.
The designer-makers taking part in this year’s event will be individually showcased on the Facebook Event Page in the run-up to the event, in the meantime if you can’t wait to see if someone you know will be there, we’re delighted to announce our 2017 stallholders:
