PVAF to Celebrate Sketchbook Exchange

September 20, 2017 by Perthshire Creates

In the dark days of early January, members of Perthshire Visual Arts Forum (PVAF) signed up to take part in their inaugural Sketchbook Exchange.  The project ran for 6 months starting in early February and offered the opportunity to collaborate with other artists through a monthly sketchbook exchange. Each participant worked with 2 other artists sending sketchbooks back and forth via the post with the idea of having two in-depth conversations with the artists on either side.

The benefits and advantages of Sketchbook Exchanges are many and diverse, getting to know other artists, motivation, inspiration, the potential development of new work, or even just some creative playtime, whatever the reason for taking part there’s so much to be gained from collaborating in this way.   It’s also at the core of PVAF’s purpose, as an artist-run charity PVAF aims to offer a forum for networking with other Perthshire based artists, creatives, designers, photographers etc and to create a climate of inspiration.   It was originally set up 12 years ago as a way for artists, often working in isolation, to meet up with people working in many different art forms.

PVAF run a series of events, workshops and members exhibitions throughout the year, all with the aim of connecting and inspiring.

This Friday 22 September PVAF is hosting a Pop Up Exhibition at Perth Museum & Art Gallery, from 6-9pm.

The exhibition will showcase the results of the Sketchbook Circle, celebrate the artists who took part and share experiences, as well as be an evening of art, discussion and networking and a way to look forward to the next twelve months of PVAF.  The Sketchbook Exchange is just one part of what PVAF and its members can offer one another.

The image below details the benefits of being a PVAF Member and how to join.  You can also join up at the evening on Friday 22 September, for just £10 a year you can be part of this engaging and creative group.

It’s a free exhibition and anyone interested to find out more about PVAF, becoming a member and joining the next Sketchbook Exchange, or simply network with Perthshire’s creative community, is very welcome to go along between 6-9pm, free to attend but registration is requested via the Eventbrite Link.

Below are some images from pages of the sketchbooks, more of which can be seen at Friday’s event.
