Coffee, Croissant & Art at Platform

Platform is Perthshire’s new festival of creativity, a chance to push your boundaries and try something different, a week long celebration of contemporary art and performance in venues across Perth & Kinross. Running from Sat 25 March to Sat 1 April, this inaugural year of the festival will host over 30 events including exhibitions, design, photography, artists talks, gigs, special installations, drama and film.
There are several opportunities to meet the artists in person at Platform, which includes these Coffee, Croissant & Art events at Perth Concert Hall, Threshold Artspace. Hosted by Iliyana Nedkova, Platform’s co-curator and Horsecross Arts Creative Director of Contemporary Art, each one allows you to hear about the artist projects in person, find out about the curation process and enjoy a cuppa at the same time. Each event is £3.50 and booking preferred, full details are detailed below and also on the Horsecross Arts website.
Sun 26 March: Coffee, Croissant & Art with Jolanta Dolewska & Iliyana Nedkova, Perth Concert Hall Threshold Artspace, 11.30-12.30pm, £3.50
Enjoy a cuppa with Platform Co-curator Iliyana Nedkova and Jolanta Dolewska, the artist-in-residence at Perth Theatre Archive working closely with Perth Youth Theatre. Get an insight into Jolanta’s Reservoir series showing at Threhsold artspace for the first time in Scotland. Reservoir comprises seven photographs transposed from negatives inherited from Jolanta’s late father presented alongside her own work. Find out why the artist uses archives as the departure point for her personal enquiry in found imagery. Treat yourself to coffee, croissant and a 10% OFF offer for any of Horsecross Arts limited editions including Jolanta’s brand new analogue photography print. Entitled Reservoir Dog, it is hand printed by the artist on museum quality silver gelatine fibre-based paper in an edition of ten. Join Ilyana Nedkova, Platform Co-curator and Horsecross Arts Creative Director of Contemporary Art for a cuppa and an overview of Encore – the new exhibition of artists’ films at Threshold artspace, Perth Concert Hall.
Preview the 12 short films by the European artists showing on the wave of screens which dominate the artspace – all hand-picked from the Horsecross Arts collection of contemporary art partly in response to our troubled post-Brexit reality. Enter the lounge turned micro-cinema for another 7 short films by European women artists born in Bosnia-Herzegovina which continue to raise questions about the unfinished European project where political narratives founded upon ethnic, national and religious divisions still prevail. £3.50 per person includes coffee and croissant or tea and scone | Meet at Glassrooms Cafe | Book in advance with firstname.lastname@example.org. Enjoy a cuppa with Platform Co-curator Iliyana Nedkova and artist Anne Gilchrist. No prior interest in art required but an acquired taste for coffee and croissant may be desirable although scones and teas are available, too. Get an insight into Anne’s The Oak Year Project comprising newly commissioned artist’s films and her sets of oil paintings on wood inspired by her artist’s residency on the shores of Loch Tay. Wed 29 March: Coffee, Croissant & Art with Susan Mowatt & Iliyana Nedkova, Perth Concert Hall Threshold Artspace, 11.30-12.30pm, £3.50
Join Iliyana Nedkova, Perth Pioneer and Platform Co-curator over coffee and croissant as she welcomes home Perth-born artist Susan Mowatt. Gain an insight into Everything Woven Together – Susan’s film and fibre installation at Threshold artspace, Perh Concert Hall. The installation features the work that led to Susan receiving the prestigious Cordis Prize for Tapestry 2016. Treat yourself to the UK premiere of Short Films with Land (2011) – Susan’s artist’s film shot on location in Scotland, France and Spain with music by Davy Henderson. Created for Susan’s solo exhibition in GalleryGallery, Kyoto in 2012, this artist’s film is the latest acquisition for the Horsecross Arts collection of contemporary art.
