2017

March 1, 2017 by Perthshire Creates

Platform is Perthshire’s new festival of creativity, a chance to push your boundaries and try something different, a week long celebration of contemporary art and performance in venues across Perth & Kinross.

Running from Sat 25 March to Sat 1 April, this inaugural year of the festival will host over 30 events including exhibitions, design, photography, artists talks, gigs, special installations, drama and film. For individual event information visit the What’s On  pages of Culture Perth & Kinross website  or the the Platform Facebook page.

Venues include the historic Innerpeffray Library  near Crieff – Scotland’s first lending library, Fair Maid’s House in Perth, The Cateran Trail in East Perthshire and Perth Museum & Art Gallery, which is due to be refurbished from 2018 – 2021 as part of an ambitious city cultural development.

Highlights include a special installation, the Story Tree – a huge split level willow and paper sculpture by artist Georgia Crook at AK Bell Library ; the UK Premiere of a short art film by Perthshire born artist Susan Mowatt, a live drama at Breadalbane Library, live music, several workshops and talks by artists and creatives.

Many events are free to attend and open throughout the week, such as the Traces Exhibition featuring work from members of Perthshire Visual Arts Forum at the Fair Maids House and the Perthshire Open Studios 10th Anniversary Exhibition at the Civic Hall, 2 High Street, both in Perth city centre.

Some are one night ticketed events such as the Perth folk duo, The Mad Ferret Band performing with friends at Perth Museum on Thursday 30 and the story telling singer song writers that are The Gutenbergs at Birnam Library on Sat 1 April.   It might be one of the lunchtime artist talks, evening drama event or an outdoor creative inspiration walk that peeks your interest.  Some of the exhibitions will also feature artworks for sale, an opportunity to find an original piece of locally created work as well as meet many of the artists, creatives and performers in person.

Platform is being run by Perthshire Creates, a network of contemporary creative activities, and Culture Perth and Kinross, which works to support the development and delivery of cultural services across Perth and Kinross.

Helen Smout, chief executive of Culture Perth and Kinross, said:

It seemed fitting that we’re looking forward to how Platform will raise awareness of artists in the region, and also push these artists creatively. Culture Perth and Kinross is proud to be part of the first annual Platform, which we see growing and being an innovative, must-do event on Perthshire’s cultural calendar.

Through a week of events, Platform will encourage established and emerging artists in Perthshire to push their creative boundaries and explore the contemporary cultural identity of the region.
