#Perth2021 – Getting involved, join in and have your say!
September 22, 2016 by Perthshire Creates
Perth recently launched it’s intention to bid for the title ‘City of Culture 2021’ with a media launch at the end of August, and the bid process continues with various developments which are to include a ‘Community Cultural Celebration Day’ as part of the Perth Winter Festival on Sunday 20th November.
There will be plenty more information and opportunities to share with you over the coming weeks and months. The Perth City of Culture 2021 bid team want to hear your ideas and aspirations about what Perth, being ‘City of Culture’, could mean to you as a creative individual, or an organisation you are part of, or a venue you visit within Perth & Kinross. The designer/urban planner Wayne Hemingway is working with Perth, looking at innovative ways to develop Perth City Centre and put his support into the bid, and there’ll be more to share about that as it develops.
Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be reaching out to the creative community with various questions and we’ll be encouraging you to let us know what you’d put on your ‘creative wish list’ for both Perth City and all of Perth & Kinross, these ideas will be explored and fed into the ‘next stage’ of the the bid process.
In brief, the UK City of Culture is awarded every 5 years by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport and brings with it the opportunity for regeneration through cultural events and activities throughout the community, as well as significant economic and social benefits. The bid process is as equally a rewarding opportunity as becoming City of Culture, and something to be embraced by everyone interested in seeing Perth City and Perth & Kinross further develop and move forward as being an even more fabulous place to be!
So please look out for further posts about how you can get involved, other planned events and activities to enjoy and keep up to date with the bid process. Cities submit a bid document to the Department of Culture, Media and Sport in April 2017 and a shortlist is published with the final winner being announced by the end of 2017. The City of Hull take on UK City of Culture for 2017, their website details their plans as City of Culture 2017 www.hull2017.co.uk.
In the meantime please look out for the information about how to join in the Perth City Community Cultural Celebration Day on Sunday 20th November and follow @Perth2021 on Twitter and Facebook to join in the conversation and use #Perthistheplace and #Perth2021 to help support the bid.
