Doors Open Days in Perth & Kinross, 24/25 Sept

September 20, 2016 by Perthshire Creates

The annual Doors Open Days is your opportunity to get into buildings normally closed to public access.  In this the Year of Innovation, Architecture & Design #IAD2016 , here’s that chance to visit historic, civic and interesting buildings in your area, and access is free!

Happening across Scotland during September there are literally hundreds of buildings you can get into.  Perth & Kinross Doors Open Days are this coming weekend, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September with around 40 venues opening their doors and you can plan your visits with the online guide to Perth & Kinross Doors Open Days.  Make your choice from museums, churches, galleries, a fire station, a castle, a winery and a variety of heritage buildings.

Doors Open Days is an entirely free event for the public, offering unique experiences, fun days out and a new perspective on the buildings and shared spaces throughout Scotland. The event builds connections between people and places, and provides a platform for people to share their love and interest in buildings, architecture, history and their region.

Doors Open Days is also a great opportunity for any children looking for that winning photo to enter into the My Place Photography Competition, a competition organised by the Scottish Civic Trust and is a Scotland-wide heritage photographic project for schools. It encourages children to look at their heritage in the places they live, and through the medium of photography, develop an understanding of the things around them.  The closing date for this competition is 31 January 2017.  See the My Place Photography Competition website for full details.

Doors Open Days is Scotland’s largest free annual architectural event and is coordinated by the Scottish Civic Trust and is part of European Heritage Days alongside Scottish Archaeology Month, coordinated by Archaeology Scotland (formerly known as the Council for Scottish Archaeology).  Both are supported by Historic Environment Scotland.
