A Fringe BOOKMARK Poetry event – Sat 10th September
August 11, 2016 by Perthshire Creates
The team at BOOKMARK Book Festival are organising a Fringe BOOKMARK event at the scenic Garden Studio in Straloch, Perthshire on Saturday 10th September from 3-4.30pm.
Some of Scotland’s finest poets come together at this picturesque Perthshire venue, to read their poems inspired by some of the paintings in Glasgow University’s Hunterian Collection. You’re invited to come and join them at The Garden Studio with its delightful views over a nearby lochan towards the Cairngorms, and discover The Hunterian Poems – An Anthology of Poems to Paintings from the collection of The Hunterian at the University of Glasgow, with its verses written in Scots, English and Gaelic.
For The Hunterian Poems, twenty-one of Scotland’s best poets composed a poem for the painting(s) of their choice from the Hunterian’s art collection, selecting works by Chardin, Jan Steen, Gavin Hamilton, Whistler, J.D.Fergusson, Stanley Spencer, and Joan Eardley among others to feature in this recently published anthology.
With Mungo Campbell, Deputy Director of The Hunterian, and Alan Riach, poet and Professor of Scottish Literature at Glasgow University, and contributing editor of The Hunterian Poems providing introduction, and poets Lesley Duncan, and John Purser (and possibly others . . . watch this space!) and Alan Riach himself reciting poems from the anthology, come and find out whether you agree that ‘poems are speaking pictures; pictures, silent poems’.
There will be an opportunity for post-event book signing of the exquisitely presented ‘The Hunterian Poems’, which will be on sale at the special price of £10 (usually £12.95), and would make a delightful gift or keepsake.
Tea and Cakes included in the ticket price of £6 from www.bookmarkblair.com.
Venue: The Straloch Garden Studio, Enochdu, Strathardle, PH10 7PH
