July 25, 2016 by Perthshire Creates
The award winning Creative Learning Team at Perth Concert Hall have launched details for their Join In Activities for 2016-17 and are open for bookings, an exciting year lies ahead with this being the 50th anniversary year of Perth Youth Theatre. The team, over the last 50 years, have provided life-enhancing and innovative classes for young people aged 4-21 years.
In 2015-16 over 200 young people attended classes and took part in performances both at Perth Concert Hall and at external venues and events. Most notably Perth Youth Theatre and Perth Youth Dance Company performed at the Perth Halloween parade; all of the Glee groups performed at the Perth Christmas Lights Switch on, and in January 2016 the senior Glè singers performed at Celtic Connections in Glasgow.
Each of the groups is specially designed to inspire creativity, fire the imagination and develop talent. As well as learning new skills, participants will have chances to perform at a range of events throughout the year as well as during the very own Horsecross Youth Arts Festival at Perth Concert Hall in June 2017. In addition to Perth Youth Theatre classes include Dance, Young Playwrights, Young Choreographers, Glee Groups and the Gordon Duncan Experience, a Celtic big band for young people playing a mixture of Scottish traditional and jazz music.
2016 will see Perth Youth Theatre reach its 50th anniversary and are planning to celebrate all that Scotland’s oldest youth theatre has to offer. To mark this momentous occasion an exciting programme of events and performances which will run throughout the academic year has been put together. The programme, which includes a gala performance involving all current PYT members, a series of masterclasses delivered by PYT Alumni and four outreach projects across Perth and Kinross, will engage current members and youth theatre alumni alike.
In November 2015 Horsecross won the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce Business Star Award for Commitment to the Community and in June were highly commended in the Community Education Awards.
