Tonight’s April Fools Gig at Perth Museum & Art Gallery

April 1, 2016 by Perthshire Creates

Perth Museum and Art Gallery in George St. Perth will stage a special April Fools concert this evening featuring a duo of unique singer-songwriters. UK legend Martin Stephenson and Scone-based Roberto Cassani will share the bill to provide a night of great songs and timeless fun.

Martin Stephenson has been one of the UK’s best-loved musicians for over 30 years.  With his band ‘The Daintees’, he released the critically acclaimed album ‘Boat To Bolivia’ exactly 30 years ago.  Since then, Martin has followed his own lifelong journey through the music he loved: folk, ragtime, jazz, rockabilly, show tunes, punk-pop and country.  Never pandering to a particular scene, Stephenson’s lightness of touch, humour and “must-see” live performances have turned him into a bona-fide national treasure.

‘If you see only one singer-songwriter in your life, make sure it’s Martin Stephenson: the man is a genius performer’, urges Roberto Cassani.

Roberto arrived in Scotland from Italy in 2000.  Although only in his early 20s, he had already worked with some of the finest Italian musicians. After learning to speak English and falling in love with  Scottish lass Lara, Cassani burst onto the UK scene in 2007 with a unique and completely irreverent take on the folk minstrel tradition. Having established himself as a festival favourite both in the UK and North America, Roberto took a ‘break’ to work as a double bass player and be a new daddy.

He is now back with new album ‘Ba-da-ba-doom’, produced by Martin Stephenson and recorded at Perthshire’s TPot Studios by Robin Wynn Evans (Manic Street Preachers, The View).

‘The Perth show will be a very special night’, explains Roberto.  ‘Full of great songs, but completely off-the-cuff mischief too.  Martin and I chose the date and venue specifically to acknowledge that yes we may be old fossils (hence the museum) and act like fools (hence the date), but our shows provide the fun and happiness that might just put a spring in your step.’

The April Fools gig at Perth Museum and Art Gallery will take place Friday 1st April, doors open 7.30pm. Tickets priced £10 are available from Perth Museum & Art Gallery reception (Tue – Sat) or online at
