Notes from our Creative Business Support Day
March 31, 2016 by Perthshire Creates
Perthshire Creates recently ran a ‘Creative Business Support Day’ for the wider creative community of Perth & Kinross, and we were delighted to welcome both those that came along and our speakers on the day, who kindly shared their knowledge and expertise in areas of interest to anyone working in the cultural and creative sector.
The day was well received and lots learnt from our speakers as well as a great networking opportunity for everyone there. Some comments on the day from some of you that came along:
- Went on a brilliant workshop yesterday run by Perthshire Creates. Great tips and advice for designers out there!
- A big thankyou for today’s business support day. It was very good. Thank you.
- Thanks very much for a really helpful and informative day on Saturday. Look forward to being involved in the next event.
- A huge thank you for facilitating a massively helpful day.
- I was at a really cracking and useful seminar organised by Perthshire Creates today. It’s incredible how much drive there continues to be by those at the creative coal face in this Shire. Thank you again!
For those who were unable to join us on the day, our speakers have provided us with some ‘Top Tips’ which we hope will be of interest.
Top Tips from Creation Social Media who talked us through the many variants of the world of social media. Creation Social Media are a Perth based company, they started 5 years ago and ‘walk the talk’, as they built their own business successfully using social media. They focus on keeping information straightforward, practical and jargon free, making online activity easier to mange and effective.
You can access the Workshop Notes from the Photography Workshop with Dave Hunt on how to take the ‘best image’ you can from your own workplace. Dave is a photographer based in Killin, whose fine art photographic work varies from landscapes and still life to salt prints, figures, dancers and more. He runs a selection of workshops for individuals, groups, indoor and outdoor. All his tuition concentrates on being creative with your equipment, rather than technical instruction and is suitable for the beginner and the more advanced, using any level of camera!
Sandy McCurdy from the Economic Development Team at PKC made a presentation on ‘Effective Selling as a non-sales person’ and believes that anyone can sell if they know how to take action, you can see his Notes from ‘Effective Selling as a non-sales person’ presentation.
Hugh Goring, owner of Frames Gallery in Perth has also kindly passed on his notes from his presentation about the Do’s & Don’ts when approaching a Gallery , a popular subject for many of those attending. Frames Gallery is a family run business operating in Perth for the last 36 years, with an enviable reputation for showing some of the best in contemporary Scottish Art & Craft, alongside an award winning picture framing workshop.
We also heard on the day from Audrey Carlin, a Senior Executive Director for Business Development at WASPS regarding the current status of the St Johns Creative Hub Project in Perth. For some this was the first time they’d heard about the development and for others it was a chance to hear the latest update about this exciting creative opportunity for Perth and the creative community. You can follow updates on this project by following the St Johns Creative Hub Facebook Page.
Thanks must go to the Economic Development Team at Perth & Kinross Council who kindly funded the Perthshire Creates Business Support Day.
It was a great day, and considering the sun shone brightly on a March Saturday, it was great to have as many of you there that could make it and thanks again to our speakers on the day.
